from the colors of her headscarf and dress, to the sure and landed way she sat on her blanket to sell small dried fish in the village market, she demonstrated what it is to claim space. she handed me a mango and some peanuts. she wanted to know my story. why would i come to her small village? to see what life is like for a woman in uganda, i told her. and then she wanted me to take her photo. after i took it, i showed her the image on the back of my camera. the image above was taken right after she saw herself.
