Every girl deserves a chance to learn, to connect, to be. These girls attend a school for Tarahumara girls in Cerocahui, Mexico. I was fortunate to spend an afternoon with them on my last day in the Copper Canyon with the One Heart Team. I had been sick the day before and was still a bit woozy, unsure of whether I wanted to go. I’m so glad that I did, because these images remind me that the spirit of a girl, when activated, is nothing short of pure power and possibility.

Thank you for blogging and illustrating the girls that will grow in to women in Chihuahua. This school and many others wants to give them the chance to learn, grow and not be married by the age of 14. The more they know the less maternal complications, less infant mortality the less One Heart World-wide is needed. This is the Girlie effect in action, in the meantime we must be there to ensure Tarahumara mothers have the health care they need.

Beautiful photos. You really show the light and joy in these girls. Hopefully at some point in time, all girls can have the opportunity to feel the same way.
